THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED CHEESE

"After going thru 5 filters in less than a week i had had it.. so, i finalyly broke down and got this filter and let me just say it is the best, i really love the shape of it and the color is great, it will blend in with a deep green or any kind of green background you have. You can never hear it. I mean never!! the only thing you hear is the running water from the outake, which my 3 RES's love, because they swim under it for a "rush", i would give this product 12 paws up baby!! ( 4 for each turt).
The cleaning for this item is very very simple, all you have to do is take off the top and pull out the core and rinse and put it back in, the only part that needs to be replaced so much, only because i have 3 RES's is the white filter part on top, other than that it is GREAT!!!
We are moving in the future and i plan on getting another filter just like this one, to help keep down the waste in my turt's, once it..
One side note, in order for the item to work you need to allow it to complete the cycle, that is how you get the crystal clear water( usually takes about 4 weeks), i just do 25% water changes each week, i never ever do a FULL water tear down, that would ruin the ecco system that builds up in it!
If you have RES's or any kind of TURT you must get this product, your babies will thank you for it!"

"This is probably my 5th filter that I have tried. I have 2 red-eared sliders that are about 6 years old now. I read the reviews and was so excited to try this thinking it would be the end of my constant cleaning. Week 3, the water is so green I can barely see the turtles!!!!! I am so frustrated with this product. I read on another review to give it 4 weeks, so this filter has till Saturday or it is going back!! Expected much better results for the price. Very disappointed so far. :("

"The canister looks nice so I don't even hide it. All the tubes and pipes are green and blend in very well in my tank. The different baskets make it very simple to clean. The handle also works as a prime to start the water flow. I use the largest size for my 20 gallon tank. It's 4 times the recommended size. I only have to clean it 2 or 3 times a year. I'm buying another one to replace the Marine C-160 which stopped working after 1.5 years."

"I purchased the ECCO for a turtle tank. He's a good sized turtle so there's quite a lot of dirt to be removed. The water really looks crystal clear. It's a little noisy, but the pump is standing out instead of being in a cabinet. My only complaint: it comes with 8 feet of hose, which would work if the tank was on a standard height fish tank stand. I had to go to the hardware store to buy extra hose, but overall I like the filter and it is easy to use."

"I've owned an Eheim Ecco Canister 2236 since Feb 2008. The impeller broke within six months. The replacement part is hard to find and costs >$35. Also, there is a slime that grows on the inside of the tubing which is hard (if not impossible) to clean, without a special brush that costs >$10. If you don't clean the slime, everytime you turn the filter on/off, the rush of water coming through it will loosen some of the slime and it will be floating in your water for a few days until the filter cleans it out."

"I have the "80" on my 55gal. Keeps my oscar fish very happy. The setup/upkeep
is very basic. I would have givin it 5 paws, but I just dont think its worth the asking price. Maybe more like 80bucks, not 140!
It is a good filter...I just dont like eheim making so much profit from a buch of plastic...Other than that it works great!

GREAT FILTER for TURTLE/FISH

"I have a 40 gallon tank with one Red-eared slider and about 14 Convict Chiclids. They all live happy together and the water is NEVER CLOUDY. I barely get any odor from the tank even. I use the 60 gallon filter to make up for the massive amount of animals in a small aquarium.
When you first set up, it will be an "ok" filter until about 2-3 weeks when the micro-organisms grow in the filter media and REALLY start cleaning the water and processing the turtle/fish waste. So those that HATE THE FILTER need to let the filter do its job. If you read the directions it mentions this all."

"When the power filter that came with my aquarium failed last week, I bought the Ecco. I don't know how I managed without it. Setup was so easy and foolproof. Took no time at all to assemble the components together and fill the baskets with substrate. The self-priming feature made filling the canister easy too. Now there's excellent water circulation and filtration in my aquarium. And the best part? It's SO quiet! Now that's money well spent."

"My wife and I just purchased the Eheim External Canister Filter. It has been so nice having a filter that is QUIET!!. We first purchased a Fluval 305. It was so hard to work with and we could not get it to work. We went through two Fluvals and then I decided that we were going to go with something else.. The Eheim is the best thing that could have happened for us and our RES's. It has kept their tank so clean.. Deffinetly recommended. FIVE STARS!"

"I have had this canister filter running for a month and have cleaned out the medium 2 times. My water is still cloudy and not clear. I have a 55 gallon tank and I purchased and oversize canister filter.
I may have to by a Marineland canister filter to get the water clear. Very unhappy with the purchase."

"The Eheim Ecco Canister filter is an OUTSTANDING product. I own a Red Earred slider turtle, which is a very dirty pet. We had previously been using a typical fish filter and were doing a full water change every week, and filter pad changes twice a week.
Enter the Eheim Ecco. We were sick of doing all that cleaning all the time, so I bought the Eheim Ecco. WOW. What a difference it has made in my life. It is incredibly easy to setup, clean, and maintain. It is virtually silent. I have it return underwater, so no more noise of it constantly splashing water.
For owners of Red Earred Slider turtles, DO NOT HESITATE to buy this, you will NOT regret it!"

"I got this filter for free from a closing LFS. Its a pretty decent filter. It has a good flow that is adjustable. One thing I don't like about it is that it is loud compared to my Fluval. Its not that loud, but still noticeable. I learned something when filling it up. Fill the intake tube with water before plugging it it, and close the out tube while its sucking water into the filter."

The Top of the Line

"This is the top of the line in filters, in my opinion. Reliable, VERY low maintenance, and absolutely silent. Not quiet...SILENT!
It costs more than most other pumps in the market, but it is a workhorse and well worth every penny. Maintenance is a snap. I clean mine about every two months or so, and cleaning takes about 20 minutes. Most material is recyclabe. The only item I've changed in the year is the top micro filtration pad.
I own three now, and would recommend this to anyone, especially the beginner (who may have problems with routine filter maintenance)."
