"After much research, I decided to go with this product and I am very pleased with my decision! It is easy to use, odor free, clean, neat and very handy for short trips away from home. Please note that the product claims are for UP TO 30 days before changing for ONE CAT. If you have TWO cats, it is only 10-14 days. Yes the cartridges are pricey, but the convenience is well worth it. I do not use the box all of the time - I use it for weekend trips or other times when I can not be home as often as needed and when a pet sitter is not warranted. I fully recommend this product and I am very grateful to have found it!"

"This is the best thing that I have EVER bought for my pets. I should have purchased one years ago. I had a LitterMaid, but it was an inferior product, only lasting 6 months (and the company wouldn't replace it). I have had this over a year, and it works like new. "I have one cat and one roommate in an apartment.
My biggest problem with my cat was the odor. It took my cat a couple weeks to get comfortable with the ScoopFree, but now it is great! There is never any odor...not to mention it is SO easy to maintain! Plus, my cat is still amazed and entertained every time it automatically cleans.
A word of advice for anyone ordering this: keep your old liter box out next to the new ScoopFree for at least one week to get your cat used to it."

"Love the fact that the old litter is easy to change and it's not an everyday job anymore! Also, I never have to clean the bottom of the plastic box due to the disposable little box that goes underneath. Pretty cool! However, I wish it was less noisy as it rakes the litter. Two tips: If the box is going to be placed close to your living or sleeping area, and the noise may bother you, then get a box with noise reduction. And what helped my kitties switch to this item was to place a little bit of the old litter on the new litter. They made the switch in no time."

"I really love this product. I have bought other self cleaning litterboxes before and was severely disappointed, much of the time the motor would wear out do to build up on the grate. This one however uses the blue crystals and therefore doesn't build up. The trays for approx. 2 weeks with 2 cats. I am extremely happy with this product. The best part is that practically anyone (including my husband) can change out the litter trays without getting grossed out!!!!!"

"I have had this for 8 months. In that time, my carpet has been absolutely ruined. I never had that happen with my other litter boxes, but the cartridges used for this do not last my one cat a week because the sides of the paper box gets saturated with urine and ends up on the carpet by soaking through. I've put a tray under the cartridge but it doesn't help. When I try to put the cartridge in a plastic garbage bag, it collapses, making a mess. My cat never tracked much litter when using regular litter boxes; however, this crystal stuff is all over my house! When I first bought the litter box, the replacement cartridges cost $15.99, now they are $20 each and considering they don't last anywhere near 30 days, it's VERY expensive. I have even pushed the crystals around every single day so that the urine would be distributed, but it still doesn't help. I'm very unhappy with this and will get rid of it as soon as I have used my last cartridge. I've written Scoop Free several times suggesting they use better material for their cartridges, but they have not given any good reason for the urine saturation and horrible smell. I NEVER had a smell with regular litter boxes. I gave it one paw because there isn't a zero.""

"I have two ten pound cats. The trays last only seven days. After a few days I remove the feces because it smells. I also stir the litter daily to prevent the urine from accumulating in one spot. By day seven the blue litter is yellow and it reeks. If not changed by day nine the smell is overwhelming. To decrease costs, I have been replacing the used litter with litter sold in bags. It is the same brand but the litter pieces are a little smaller and get tracked out into the house. The bag of litter costs about $10 so it's about $40-$50 per month or $520 per year. I am looking for a new system."

"With 2 cats, this box is a bit pricey to maintain. I wish I would have investigated a bit more prior to purchasing.
I have to replace the cartridge every 10 days and it is often soggy on the bottom (yuk) after that time. The instructions say you may need to replace every 2 weeks but there is really a big difference between 14 days and 10 days...at $15.00 per tray, it adds up pretty quick.
It would be nice if they could come up with a permanent tray that could just be refilled with the crystals."

"After my littermaid died, I bought this thinking it would work wonders. It needs to be changed weekly, not once a month, otherwise it will smell like ammonia. The motor is quiet, but the rake doesnt pick everthing up, clumps gets clogged behind the rake. The refills are EXPENSIVE! Save your money or buy a littermaid!"

"I got this for my grandsons cat. He hates it want use it.
We have tryed everything.
He had a littermaid he loved it. Now I will have to get another one of the littermaid. So disappointed. The cat hates it. He has been declawed. I think it hurts his feet.

"This is the original automatic kitty litter box and I've seen it advertised for years but never bought because of the cost. I moved to an apartment recently and got tired of the litter smell and having to deal with the mess. I read other reviews here and decided it was worth a shot.
My cat is at least 12 years old, and I really worried if she would use this. I found it not difficult to set up and followed the advice to sprinkle a little of her old litter in the box.
By the end of the first night she was using it regularly and she and I both marvelled at the self-cleaning operation:-) After the cat exits the box a timer begins tracking 20 minutes and that's when the rake cleans it up.
I also bought the privacy hood and am glad I did. I've had it almost 3 weeks now and I'm telling you, this is the best deal ever! Worth every penny!"

"I give 5 stars to the scoopfree box and 1 star for the refills. I love the box.. works as advertised. The refills are another thing. I have two beautiful large cats and they demolish the cardboard box in a week. I found out almost right away that the refills leaked. I ended up putting a plastic bag under the carboard box so the floor wouldn't get wet. I guess I expected the refills to last longer since there 16.00 a piece at the petstore. I thought I might be able to get a better price on the refills if I looked around but they seem to be at a set price no matter what store advertised them. I read some reviews and someone mentioned finding a permanent plastic refill tray called Permascoop so I'm going to look into that option."

"I am loving this litter box. I have had it up and running for about 2 weeks. We can't even smell a thing. It hasn't leaked like some of the other reviews stated. Our kitten "Yogurt" took right to it. All I had to do was put some of her "waste" from the old pan into the new one. She smelt it and then used it right away! When I placed her in the bathroom with the old pan she held her potty all night so she could use the ScoopFree pan. We had to throw the old one away!!!!"

"I bought thiis litter box about two weeks ago and so far all is good! I was worried my cat would be afraid of the motor noise or not like the look of the box. I was wrong, she was very intrested and used it about 10 minutes after it was out.
The only negative thing so far is that sometimes she poops on the top of the rack. So if that falls behind the rack, the sweeping motion can't catch it. So it ends up being pushed against the side of the box, instead of in the dumping area. That has happened twice in the last two weeks, but I'm hoping she gets the idea!"

"I have tried several automatic catboxes and find this one has the best motor. It never jams and does a reasonable job scooping up the litter. The odor control is o.k. I bought the hood for this box but had to take it back because one of my cats had to squeeze into the opening and coudn't sit upright in the catbox. I think the hood could be made a little wider and taller for larger cats.
My cats had no problem using it unless the crystals become to wet and then they go on the top of the box in protest. The cardboard boxes do not last as long as I would like and they are pretty pricey.
My sister told me about a plastic replacement box she ordered on the web called permascoop. I bought one and solved the problem of buying cartridges. I think Scoopfree is a better box than Littermaid or Purrforma."
