squirrel-be-gone
Date: May 10, 2009
"I purchased the squirrel be gone bird feed around the beginning of April, thankful that finally I would have a birdfeeder that the many squirrels and chipmunks would not empty in a matter of hours ( or less). It seemed to be working for awhile, the squirrels tried to chew through the top wire to get it to drop to the ground, but were not successful. However, after that attempt, they proceeded to eat the plastic housing, around the bird hole areas they have eaten an inch and a half area totally out, in two spots, so that if I do put seed into the feeder, it just pours out! I can only fill it so full now, and regardless, they eat it anyway.
Very disappointed in my purchase, and would not recommend buying one.

Bird feeder
Date: April 21, 2009
"I have over a dozen feeders in my garage collecting dust. All of them have been overcome by my local squirrels. This is the ONLY one that works. I have 4 of them hanging in my yard now. I've been using them for 4 years now."

This feeder doesn't work
Date: March 5, 2009
"I had this feeder less than 1 week; the squirrels got into it and the feeder 's springs broke with only a little over 1/2 lb of birdseed in it."

Awesome
Date: February 25, 2009
"I've had 2 of these feeders for several years now and I'm thrilled with it. Squirrels still get on it but they can only get whatever seed is left in the feed ports. I haven't had any trouble with chewing plastic or bending metal. I go through a lot less seed. I recommend this feeder to all my bird feeding friends."

Waste of $30
Date: August 1, 2008
"It's true, the ports close when the weight of a squirrel gets on it, but that doesn't stop them from chewing through the plastic. This feeder only lasted a month before the squirrels started bending the leaves that cover the seed ports. Once the seed ports were exposed they then chewed though the plastic ports making a big hole in the plasic. All of the seeds then flows out onto the ground and breakfast is served. The idea is great, the materials are poor. The squirrels ARE smarter than the feeder."

Works Well
Date: May 20, 2008
"I installed this on a Shepherd Hook in my condo association and the squirrles attempted to get at it for days but were only able to nibble on the metal without damaging it.... Still in the the second season now... the fill process seems like it would break the springs but it doesn't."

Seems to work fine!
Date: February 14, 2008
"After reading the other reviews, perhaps I haven't had it long enough or the squirrels have enough food otherwise and leave this alone...For the past few weeks this feeder has been covered in birds - sparrows, goldfinches, woodpeckers, & cardinals. Whatever they kick out, the squirrels get off of the ground and it seems to be working well so far.
A suggestion that might help - my sister has a square screen on the ground under her birdfeeder, held just off the dirt by 4 small clay flower pots. Any seed that falls from the feeder lands on the screen, giving the squirrels a snack. I made a 2' square from 1 X 2s, stapled a layer of welded wire mesh on it (for strength), and a layer of thin screen on top of the mesh (so the seeds wouldn't fall through). This gives the squirrels a place to hang out and allows air flow so the seed doesn't get moldy. I also throw a scoop of seed out on the screen when I fill the feeder.
So, that's my rating...if it changes I'll let you know!"

Squirrels too sqrirrelly
Date: July 28, 2007
"I bought this product at the PETCO store and it lasted less than two weeks. The squirrels managed to bend the decorative metal leaves/barriers beyond recognition. A few days later, the springs were pryed off as well. This feeder as about as effective as leaving your housekey under the flowerpot next to your front door."

Scared Birds
Date: February 16, 2007
"I have one of these feeders and the birds would not eat out of it until I wired the "squirrel proof" frame so that it wouldn't move. I guess it moved too easily and scared the birds. It would set for a week at a time and still be full of seed. After I wired it open (so that the outside frame did not drop to shut out the squirrels), the birds eat out of it freely."

Squirrel Be Gone does not make squirrels go!
Date: February 14, 2007
"This birdfeeder lasted only two winters for me. It's true, the ports close when the weight of a squirrel gets on it, but that doesn't stop them from chewing through the plastic! Mr. Squirrel chewed such a big hole in the bottom feeder hole that now when I fill up the feeder, all the seed comes right out. The squirrels are smarter than this feeder!"

nice idea, pretty feeder, but didn't last
Date: August 6, 2006
"This was a nice idea, but needs some improvements. It worked awhile, although it didn't stop the squirrels from hanging all over it. It didn't take long and mine also had problems with the springs; they stretched out and wouldn't let the cover slide back up. It became the only feeder in my yard that still was full of seeds. When I went to check out why, that's when I found the cover closed over the holes stopping anything from eating. I tried to fix the springs, but it didn't take long and the same thing happened again, plus the springs also rusted. I had to tie the cover to hold it up, which totally defeated the squirrel proof idea. I went back to mixing cayene pepper into the seed before putting into the feeder."

Squirrel-NOT-be-gone
Date: July 6, 2006
"This product does not do what it promises. I have had it for approximately 2 months and the squirrels have figured out how to unlock the springs and they have chewed through the plastic to get to the seed. I have about 5 squirrels at once climbing around it, or on it, or on the ground eating the seeds that they knock out of the feeder. I would not recommend this product to anyone."
